Robinson & Bell Helicopter History Check

Make, model, year and registration status free. Full history report $79.

7,594 helicopters currently on the FAA registry are Robinson or Bell — the two manufacturers that dominate the U.S. civil helicopter fleet. Robinson accounts for 3,162: R22s (Alpha, Beta, Beta II, Mariner variants), R44s (the Raven/Clipper/Astro family, the single most-registered model at 1,312+61 alone), and the turbine R66. Bell accounts for 4,432 across more than 200 model variants — light singles like the 206B JetRanger and 206L LongRanger, the ubiquitous 407, ex-military UH-1 "Huey" and OH-58 "Kiowa" airframes now in civilian hands, and larger twins like the 412 and 429.

Why these two families need a closer look than most airframes

Both manufacturers build aircraft with hard, well-defined overhaul lives — piston Robinsons run on a 2,200-hour (R22) or 2,200/12-year airframe and engine overhaul schedule, and Bell's turbine fleet runs component-life and hot-section tracking that a casual buyer has no way to verify from a logbook alone. A helicopter that has changed hands, been rebuilt after an incident, or had a component swapped from a donor airframe can look identical to one with a clean history — until you check the registration and accident record directly. Ex-military Bell airframes (UH-1, OH-58) carry an extra wrinkle: many were re-registered under a new N-number after leaving military service, which is exactly the kind of history a serial-number cross-match catches and a tail-number-only search misses.

What a $79 report adds

Current FAA registration status, prior registrants, recent FAA filings (bills of sale, security agreements/liens), full NTSB accident and incident history, and the serial-number cross-match that catches an accident hiding under a prior tail number.

Check a specific tail number

Use our free tail-number lookup to check registration status and a summary of what a full report would show, or see our helicopter pre-purchase checklist for the full buying process.

Check a tail number now

Look up any U.S. tail number free — make, model, year, and registration status in seconds. The full history report is $79: every owner on record, registration expiry, recent filings, and NTSB accidents matched by serial number as well as tail number — which is how you catch a wreck that was repaired and re-registered under a different N-number.
